Aurora is about 90 minutes drive west from Inverness, around 65 miles. 2½ - 3 hours north of Fort William, around 110 miles. Ullapool is about two hours away. Inverness airport - two hours away. Inverewe Gardens, Skye Bridge and Eilean Donan Castle about 75 minutes (Check if A890 open). Roads take a little longer to travel when single track, average speeds being about 40 mph – here we refer to how long the journey takes, not how far the distance is. Applecross is about eight miles as the crow flies but takes about an hour to get there!

All the roads to Shieldaig are single track with passing places, which adds to the charm of the area, along with avoiding sheep scattered all over the roads. So the last part of the journey takes about 30 minutes whether from the north or south. Be aware there is another Shieldaig in Wester Ross, near Gairloch!

This area of the North West Highlands has outstanding natural beauty and is one of the last wildernesses in Europe. Glen Torridon, from the north, brings you right past the majestic Torridon munro’s. Shieldaig Main Street is a conservation area on the edge of a sheltered sea loch. We are located at the upper level of the village with commanding views over Shieldaig Island and out to sea.

Our climate is mild in general - thanks to the Gulf Stream, often damp but never very hot. We get snow on the mountain tops from October to May, creating incredibly beautiful and photogenic scenery. Our seasons are distinct with really long days in the summer.
