Eco-friendly Aurora

Being environmentally aware does not mean any compromise on comfort or the 4 star quality of accommodation, quite the opposite. At Aurora there is a commitment to provide excellent quality and facilities for guests, whilst minimising the environmental impact of business activities.

Many communities in the Highlands are dependent on tourism to survive, but that brings its own problems – population numbers quadruple overnight and high tourist road miles. By choosing to stay at Aurora you are already making a positive step to reducing the carbon emissions associated with your holiday, whilst helping to support our fragile local economy. The actions of each and every one of us has an impact on the environment. I have created a comfortable place to stay, with facilities for longer stays (e.g. guests lounge, washing machine & drying room) in this central Wester Ross location. Reduced the tariff for stays of 3 or more nights, to encourage longer stays. This helps to preserve the outstanding beauty of the very area visitors come to experience. For example you may get a sighting of the Red Squirrels which have been re-introduced to the village in 2016; this has been a project in partnership with 'Trees for Life'. 'Trees for Life' offer volunteering opportunities with them or you can donate in order to plant more (much needed) trees in the Highlands. By planting a tree with 'Trees for Life', you are helpng to restore woodlands in the Scottish Highlands, transforming bare hillsides into healthy young woodland, rich in wildlife and lock up carbon. I have 10 days’ worth of popular activities along with “green”suggestions, walks and activity folders. Plenty of recommendations for arts, crafts and eating locally; along with 'off the beaten track' local spots, that many people just passing through do not get to see. These are often the serendipitous moments that create special memories.

There are some simple measures you can help with, to keep carbon emissions lower – look at the top 15 tips to reduce your impact. I'm still learning, so please share any information you think might help.
